Their teachers upload PDF notes for each topic — 500+ files — but students have no way to turn those dense PDFs into active study material. Students read passively, forget quickly, and come back asking teachers to re-explain the same concepts before exams. Teachers spend 30% of their time on revision sessions that could be replaced by good self-study tooling.

Their Heroku bill is £4,800/month; a comparable Kubernetes setup on GKE Autopilot would cost £900/month and give them far more control. They've decided to migrate, but their two-person engineering team has never managed Kubernetes in production. The constraint: NovaCorp can't afford downtime during the migration. The system must auto-scale, self-heal, and be deployable by any engineer on the team — including the one who joined last week.

Their current SIEM is a £120,000/year enterprise licence that clients can't afford — so most clients have nothing. CyberGuard wants to build their own lightweight SIEM they can offer as a £400/month managed service. Their head of engineering has 12 weeks before the next client renewal cycle. She needs a system an analyst who has never seen it before can operate within 30 minutes: ingest a new log source, write a detection rule in YAML, tune the anomaly threshold, and close an incident — all without touching code.

Quantra Capital is a systematic hedge fund managing $40M in AUM across long/short equity strategies on US large-cap stocks. Their current signal stack is purely technical (RSI, MACD, moving averages). Their head of research believes that adding news sentiment, earnings surprise, and social signal could improve their Sharpe ratio from 0.8 to over 1.5 — but the engineering lift is more than their two-quant team can absorb alongside live trading. The constraint: all predictions must be reproducible. Every signal input must be stored at prediction time. An auditor must be able to replay any past prediction from scratch using stored inputs and arrive at the same output.
